LGBTQ+

This is uncomfortable for me to discuss. I am unfamiliar with what these people are going through. I am not sure if I even believe all the research. But I do understand being subtly discriminated against. I am white, I am a Christian, (Lutheran). How could I be discriminated against? I am left handed. I suspect I am slightly dyslexic. Some things are easy for me that are difficult for some other people, like science and math. Somethings are difficult for me that are easy for others, like reading the numbers and letters in the order they were printed.

School desks are designed for righthanders. Penmanship was especially difficult for me because I had to teach myself. It was difficult to see what I had written without putting the pencil upside down and writing from above. When I did that I was dragging my hand and arm over what I had already written. This would smear the words I had already written and make my fingers dirty with pencil lead. Seeing the numbers was a challenge, I would easily get them in the wrong order unless I concentrated on them. The same with letters. I had trouble with the concept of left and right.

My discrimination was based on how my brain was wired. I can understand that not all brains are wired the same way. So I can understand the concept that all brains may not be wired the same way according to how we deal with sexuality and gender.

But I am sure of this. No one should be picked on or bullied in school, or anywhere else. That is unacceptable. Everyone should have privacy when going to the bathroom. We should all be called by what we prefer to be called.

We need to understand that the reason for the LGBTQ+ movement is because of the violence and threats of violence against them. How someone’s brain is wired should make them a lesser citizen. That is absurd. Using religion as a reason to demean people is doubly unacceptable to me. As a Lutheran I believe in loving our neighbors as ourselves. To love someone we must accept them as they are, not somehow try to change them into someone else that we approve of.

If you think the LGBTQ+ movement is about promoting deviant sex, think again. It is promoting protection and acceptance of people different than most of us. Are you against promoting protection and acceptance? If the LGBTQ + subject makes you uncomfortable, I can understand that, it makes me uncomfortable too. But that discomfort should not be a reason to joke about them, verbally demean them, pick on them, bully them, or be violet toward them.

The World is not how we want it to be, it is what it is. We cannot expect everyone else to be perfect so we don’t have to be.
